Watton-at-Stone is a small village located in the valley of the River Beane in Hertfordshire, England, about midway between
the towns of Stevenage and Hertford. According to the 2021 census, the village has a population of 2,614 people living in 1,036 households, and it is also a civil parish in the East Hertfordshire District Council. While there are limited job opportunities within the village, it is primarily a residential area for commuters who travel to London or nearby towns using the frequent half-hourly trains to Moorgate station. The village is home to a primary school and nursery school, as well as the co-educational Heath Mount independent school located on the outskirts of the village in the private estate of the Grade II listed Woodhall Park. The A602 formerly ran through the centre of the village before a bypass was built in 1984 through farmland to the north-east, and it is now served by a railway station on the Hertford Loop Line.
