Rye House Stadium, located on Rye Road in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, is a former venue for
greyhound racing and speedway. The stadium is located alongside the River Lea Navigation. The name “Rye House” originates from a group of medieval structures situated on the Isle of Rye. This area was named for its proximity to the River Lea/Lee and the Lee Navigation. The stadium was constructed in 1935 on an adjacent plot of land next to the original Rye House, which had been the Parr family’s residence in the 16th century and later served as a workhouse and tourist attraction in the 19th century. Today, only the gatehouse to the north of the stadium remains from the original Rye House complex.
